A day at Rottnest Island
We are lucky enough to live in sunny Perth, Western Australia, which means Rottnest Island is just a short ferry ride away. In January, Charlotte (@luluescapes) came to visit, so the #1 thing we had to show her was Rottnest Island!
We packed our backpack with lots of water and snacks for the day and headed to the ferry wharf in Fremantle bright an early to catch the first ferry of the day. We took the new Sea Link Rotto ferry over to Rottnest. The team made it super easy for us and before we knew it, we were on the shores of Rottnest.
My number 1 tip for heading to Rottnest is that you must hire a bike! There are no cars allowed on the island which makes it so peaceful, but the best beaches are a little further away so you'll need a bike.
First stop was the lighthouse and The Basin. Because we arrived so early, we had the whole beach to ourselves!
We then made our way up the north side of the island stopping at all the stunning beaches along the way. There was barely anyone around, it was like we had the place to ourselves!

After a full morning of riding we stopped off at the Geordie Bay general store for some lunch at the cafe there. There are only 2 areas where you can get food on the island; Geordie Bay and the Main settlement near where you board the ferry. We didn't want to ride all the way back to the settlement so Geordie Bay was perfect. After lunch we continued up to the top of the island.

Once the sun began to set, we returned our bikes to Pedal & Flipper and went to Hotel Rottnest for a bite to eat before our 8pm ferry.
